Briquet de style zippo en laiton de marque EARTH Star smoking set des années 1990/2000.
G. Blaisdell acheta les droits d'un briquet tempête autrichien en 1932 afin de créer, sous sa marque américaine Zippo inspiré du mot zipper (fermeture éclair), un briquet fiable et beau. La forme rectangulaire de son briquet devint sa marque de fabrique et son nom zippo passa dans l'usage courant.
Le briquet zippo appelé aussi briquet tempête est un briquet à essence solide et résistant. Son fonctionnement est simple : des étincelles produites, après le frottement de la roue métallique, allument la mèche imbibée avec de l'essence pour briquet.
Ce briquet n'a jamais servi. Son décor d'aigle, d'étoiles et un révolver symbolisent le 2ème amendement de la Constitution des États-Unis d’Amérique qui reconnaît la possibilité pour le peuple américain de constituer une milice "bien organisée" pour contribuer "à la sécurité d'un État libre", et il garantit en conséquence à tout citoyen américain le droit de détenir des armes.
Les briquets zippo et style zippo fonctionnent en imbibant leur partie intérieure en coton avec de l'essence pour briquet.

"EARTH Star smoking set" brand, brass zippo style lighter 1990s/2000s.
G. Blaisdell bought the rights to an Austrian storm lighter in 1932 in order to create, under his American brand Zippo inspired by the word zipper, a reliable and beautiful lighter. The rectangular shape of his lighter became his trademark and his name zippo came into common use.
The zippo lighter, also known as the storm lighter, is a solid and resistant petrol lighter. Its operation is simple : sparks produced, after the friction of the metal wheel, light the wick soaked in lighter fluid.
This lighter has never been used. Its decoration of an eagle, stars and a revolver symbolize the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, which recognizes the possibility for the American people to constitute a "well-organized" militia to contribute "to the security of a free State", and it consequently guarantees every American citizen the right to keep arms.
Zippo and zippo style lighters work by soaking their cotton inner part with lighter fluid.
