Cette médaille immortalise le 1er département (l'Orne) pour l'action culturelle en faveur de la langue Française en 1976.
L'artiste sculpteur graveur Serge Santucci est issu de l'école Supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris. Il a reçu de nombreux prix dont le prix de la Casa Velasquez (Madrid), la médaille d'or du Salon des Artistes Français, le Grand Prix du Baron Taylor,... En plus de ses oeuvres d'art qui ornent des monuments, il a aussi créé une centaine de médailles pour commémorer Van Gogh, Goya, le Général de Gaulle,... Sa signature est reconnue par la Monnaie de Paris.
La Monnaie de Paris a été créée en 864 par le roi Charles II (petit-fils de Charlemagne) qui voulait un atelier monétaire parisien attaché à la couronne qui lui permettait de frapper monnaie.
Cette médaille porte le poinçon "Corne" sur sa tranche avec "1977" à gauche et "BRONZE" à droite. Ce poinçon (Corne d'abondance) est utilisé, par la Monnaie de Paris, depuis 1880 pour frapper les médailles en bronze.
1ère face de la médaille : 2 angelots tenant des couronnes de laurier et chêne veillent sur la façade d'un hôtel de Ville de l'Orne et l'inscription "l'Orne en français" avec la signature de l'artiste "S.R. SANTUCCI 77".
2ème face de la médaille : Le millésime 1976 rayonne sur le département cartographié de l'Orne avec une légende circulaire "PREMIER DEPARTEMENT POVR L'ACTION CVLTVRELLE EN FAVEVR DE LA LANGVE". En vieux français le "U" majuscule s'écrit "V".
L'oeuvre de cet artiste sculpteur graveur porte le sceau de la durée !

2nd side of the medal: The 1976 vintage shines on the mapped department of the Orne with a circular legend "PREMIER DEPARTEMENT POVR L'ACTION CVLTVRELLE EN FAVEVR DE LA LANGVE". In Old French, the capital "U" is written as "V".
