Créée en 1915, la Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 est une décoration militaire qui récompense les actes de bravoure individuels durant la Grande Guerre.
La loi du 8 avril 1915 institue la Croix de Guerre destinée à commémorer, depuis le début de la guerre 1914-1915, les citations individuelles pour faits de guerre. Elle a même été décernée au pigeon voyageur "Le Vaillant".
Elle a été réalisée selon le modèle du Maître sculpteur Bartholomé qui représente une croix pattée en bronze à 4 branches avec 2 épées croisées, en son centre la tête de Marianne coiffée d'un bonnet phrygien, ornée d'une couronne de laurier avec en exergue "République Française" et au dos, l'inscription de son année d'édition "1914-1915" modifiée chaque année jusqu'à la fin de la guerre "1914-1918".
La remise officielle de cette croix se fait au cours d'une prise d'armes et se place sur la poitrine gauche après la Légion d'Honneur et la Médaille militaire. A chaque citation pour reconnaissance d'acte de bravoure individuel, il est apposé 1 étoile en bronze sur son ruban vert avec liseré rouge à chaque bord qui compte 5 bandes rouges (3ème photo).
Cette médaille avec son étoile sur son ruban a été beaucoup portée par son propriétaire d'où l'état usé et défraîchi de son ruban.

Created in 1915, the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 is a military decoration that rewards individual acts of bravery during the Great War.
The law of 8 April 1915 instituted the Croix de Guerre intended to commemorate, since the beginning of the 1914-1915 war, individual citations for acts of war. It was even awarded to the carrier pigeon "Le Vaillant".
It was made according to the model of the Master sculptor Bartholomew who represents a bronze cross pattée with 4 branches with 2 crossed swords, in its center the head of Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap, decorated with a laurel wreath with the epigraph "French Republic" and on the back, the inscription of its year of edition "1914-1915" modified each year until the end of the war "1914-1918".
The official presentation of this cross is done during a parade of arms and is placed on the left chest after the Legion of Honor and the Military Medal. For each citation for recognition of an act of individual bravery, 1 bronze star is affixed to its green ribbon with red border on each edge which has 5 red stripes (3rd photo).
This medal with its star on its ribbon has been worn a lot by its owner, hence the worn and faded state of its ribbon.
