La bakélite a été développée vers 1907 par un chimiste belge (Leo Backeland) d'où son nom ! Ce fût le 1er plastique fait de polymères synthétiques utilisé tout au long de la 1ère moitié du XXe siècle mais abandonné dès l'apparition d'un autre plastique dérivé du pétrole en 1950.
La bakélite a été utilisée aussi dans la couture de luxe comme cette boucle de ceinture art déco des années 1940/1950 aux couleurs de l'ambre et dans un bon état.
La replacer sur un vêtement de cette époque sera du plus bel effet !

1940s/1950s Bakelite Belt Buckle.
Bakelite was developed around 1907 by a Belgian chemist (Leo Backeland), hence its name! It was the 1st plastic made of synthetic polymers used throughout the 1st half of the twentieth century but abandoned as soon as another plastic derived from petroleum appeared in 1950.
Bakelite was also used in luxury tailoring such as this art deco belt buckle from the 1940s/1950s in amber colors and in good condition.
Replacing it on a garment from this period will be of the most beautiful effect !
