Tabatière chinoise en os sculpté représentant un mandarin chinois.
La tête du mandarin est sculptée des 2 côtés, elle est double face.
La 1ère image présente la sculpture de face, la 2ème image présente le dos de la sculpture et l'on y voit une légère différence de couleur due à la couleur de l'os.
Les tabatières chinoises servaient à protéger le tabac à priser de l'humidité. Ces petites fioles étaient fabriquées pour l'élite chinoise comme les mandarins, les hauts fonctionnaires, les lettrés et même l'empereur chinois.
Cet objet a dû être commandé par un mandarin qui l'a probablement souhaité à son effigie.
Très bel objet de vitrine !

Chinese carved bone snuffbox representing a Chinese mandarin.
The head of the mandarin is sculpted on 2 sides, it is double-sided.
The 1st image shows the sculpture from the front, the 2nd image shows the back of the sculpture and we see a slight difference in color due to the color of the bone.
Chinese snuff boxes were used to protect snuff from humidity. These small vials were made for the Chinese elite such as mandarins, high officials, scholars, and even the Chinese emperor.
This object must have been ordered by a mandarin who probably wanted it in his image.
